Where ideas come from

It’s a time of uncertainty, just before you start a book.
It’s difficult to have faith, to believe you can do it again.
What’s the next story about?
Where do ideas come from?
Will they be any good?
Should you just start writing?
Why would any sensible person try to write a book?
Sounding a lot like a business coach, let me say: It’s back to basics.
I saw a possible plot development in the daily newspaper yesterday.
I irregularly keep files called “Ideas”, a mish-mash of clippings and old stories that never went anywhere and handwriting I can barely read.
Yesterday, I browsed some of that.
Twice now, I’ve started making some handwritten notes.
Bum plus chair = manuscript.
But at this stage, you also need some dreaming time.
